Buying A Puppy

Buying a puppy to most people is a commitment they will make for the next 10-15 years of their lives; regrettably not all dog owners can comprehend this. A small minority of people will buy a puppy and then become disinterested in it, especially around Xmas time; they make the decision to remove the puppy from their household.

Sometimes the unwanted puppy will be taken to a local dog shelter where they may have a chance to be re-homed with a loving family There are some people among us who will take their puppy to someplace where they can dump the puppy with out objections Some of the complaints they say are absolutely disgusting, here are some you may have heard;

  • My wife left me and I can't take care of the puppy on my own.
  • The puppy has started to bite and it's harming my children.
  • The puppy is very unruly and is ruining my home.
  • We are not allowed to own any animals in the house we're now renting.
  • The puppy whines and barks when we're not there and our neighbours have been moaning to us
  • The puppy is annoying the other animals in our house
  • He is playing havoc with my health
  • My health has taken a turn for the worse and I'm unable to look after the puppy

I am sure many of these reasons are valid however a lot of these justifications are to make them feel better about realizing that they have made a mistake in buying a puppy in the first place.

This happens more often than you'd like to think.

With Xmas just around the corner here is a simple idea you should bear in mind and To advise you if you really feel you've made the right choice on buying a puppy And the best way forward when the New Year comes around.

If you're thinking of buying a puppy just for the entertainment you'll get on Christmas day then don't, as the old saying goes a dog is for life and not just for Christmas and this all too true. Accepting a puppy into your house is like bringing home a new extension to your family and you must care for accordingly. Don't just abandon them when you decide you've had enough.

If you're not in a position to offer a life long, caring home for your puppy then do them a favor and don't get one. Buying a puppy is not only worthwhile but you will also learn a lot from your experience. You could compare it to having your own children. A puppy however will rarely answer you back.

Supposing you have a number of concerns you should talk to your local animal sanctuary and ask for some ideas on how to handle the problems that you have. The members of these dog sanctuaries will go out of their way to assist you and make sure you are loaded with the information you need and it’s free for you to use. And if you are sure you can no longer look after your puppy then your nearby animal sanctuary will probably be able to take your puppy off your hands and find them a new place to live. However this should really be your Last ditch, if you fall into any of these categories I've discussed here then don't consider buying a puppy at all, it’ll only cause more heartache when you have to get rid of them.
